In the Beginning

Back in 1987, Ken Smith founded Heritage Design with just a pick up truck, a tool belt and a beard. He's seen the company move forward from those humble beginnings, now taking its place as K-W's fence and deck leader.

Heritage Design opened the doors to a brand new showroom on Trillium Drive, Kitchener in 1991. After a few years of hiding in the Huron Business Park, the crew moved out to a high traffic location on Manitou Drive in Kitchener. Our lumber yard expanded and the new larger showroom offered in-house design, deck accessories and stain products.

Maybe city life was overwhelming for Ken, because in 2004 he moved the Heritage gang out to Petersburg, where a cozy country showroom fronted the bursting lumber yard. We began to sell Pressure Treated lumber to DIY fans and expanded the store offerings to include hardware, fencing components and just about everything homeowners need to build a deck or fence.

After a few years in Petersburg, Ken was finally ready to settle into some permanent digs. The Heritage crew has called Baden home since 2009, pitching the company sign on the corner of Gingerich and Sandhills (yes, this used to be the home of Baden Coffee Company, but no, we aren't giving up our coffee).

We now have a fully stocked lumber yard and showroom, offering competitive prices and expert advice on all things fence, deck and shed related. Ken is still running the show and sporting his beard. Every so often he trades in his Blackberry for a tool belt.
